Gal Gadot’s Wicked Role: Embracing the Chilling Charm of an ‘Appropriate’ Evil Queen
The highly anticipated live-action remake of the classic fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is just around the corner and it looks like they’ve made a great choice with one of their lead roles – the Evil Queen. Following the story of the original animated adaptation, the film will see Snow White cursed by her stepmother, who is envious of her beauty. Interestingly, the film has dropped the “and the Seven Dwarfs” from its title for this new version. Fans cannot wait to see how this reboot compares to the beloved original.
In recent weeks, the Snow White adaptation has been embroiled in controversy. The lead actress, Rachel Zegler, caused a stir when clips of her from 2022 surfaced, in which she stated that the new Snow White would not be saved by a prince and would not dream of true love, but instead aspire to be a strong leader. Many have criticized this as a “pseudo-feminist” stance that devalues women who prioritize love and romance. Zegler has faced extensive criticism on social media, with some fans even calling for the entire remake to be reshot with a different actress. Additionally, there have been complaints about her pay for the iconic role.
It’s impossible for Snow White fans to watch the new Disney film anytime soon as the filming has been completed and set to be released in March 2024. However, the filmmakers have given some exciting teasers about the reimagined retelling of Snow White, including some details about its villain. Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, recently revealed in an interview with GQ that she had to audition for the role and showcase her singing skills because the film is a musical. She added that she worked on the song for a month before the audition and was thrilled to get the part.
The actress who played the lead role in Wonder Woman shared that she has received a lot of support from her oldest daughter for her latest role as the iconic villain. Initially, her daughter assumed she would be playing Snow White, but when she found out that Gadot would actually be portraying the Evil Queen, she commented, “Oh, how fitting.” Although it may not be the most enthusiastic endorsement from a child, it is still a positive sign for us viewers. Gadot’s debut as the villain will be seen alongside Zegler in Snow White on March 22, 2024.
